Farmers Ending Hunger

Farmers, Ranchers, and You - Working Together to Feed Those in Need

There are several ways to help FEH.

Adopt-An-Acre Program

Become a partner with Northwest growers and ranchers in the fight to end hunger by adopting an acre of donated farm product through the Adopt-An-Acre program. Supporters who adopt acres of farmland provide the necessary funds to process food grown on the adopted acre. Your contribution helps cover the expenses of processing acres of local crops into high-quality food. Then, the food is distributed to a network of local food banks and social service programs. In 2007 alone, adopted acres provided approximately 84,000 pounds of dried peas, 93,000 pounds of wheat and 405,000 pounds of potatoes.

Tax deductible donations will leverage the generosity of FEH growers and other donors to help reduce hunger in Oregon.

Matching Funds Program

This unique program involves food banks asking farmers and FEH about their needs for the upcoming year. After determining needs each spring, farmers and FEH seek to grow and deliver desired products requested from the food banks. This assures food banks receive the food they need at the time they need it as opposed to receiving foods from surplus, gleaning and/or after-harvest programs.

Organize Fundraising Event

If you are great at rallying people together or organizing fundraising events, FEH needs your help! A great opportunity to get creative, fundraising organization allows you to showcase your creativity. While we can also suggest a type of event you might enjoy hosting, as well as tips for success, we encourage you not to limit yourself to these options. We continually encourage and support new fundraising ideas and look forward to learning more about your plans.

Become a Volunteer

Without the help of our volunteers, we would not be where we are today! Our volunteers provide support in many different areas, whether they are putting hours toward organizing fundraising events, spreading the word, recruiting sponsors, delivering food to warehouses or helping wherever needed. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering your time to ending hunger in Oregon.

Gifts and Legacies

If you want to leave a legacy behind with planned giving, we can help you create a giving plan to fulfill your wishes.

Gifts By Will: A bequest is one way to offer your ongoing support. You can retain full use of your gift property during your life, reserve lifetime income for a family member or a number of different options.

Memorial and Honorary Gifts: Another heartfelt way to donate is a gift in memory of a departed loved one. We will notify the family of your tribute. With an honorary gift, show your loved ones how much you care with a gift that changes lives. Make a donation as a gift to celebrate a holiday, birthday, special occasion or any time you want to honor a loved one. We will send them a card notifying them of the gift you made in their name.

Farmers' Help

Growers donate, at no cost to FEH, a portion of their farm production for distribution toward the emergency food network to help fight hunger and food insecurity. The funds FEH receives as donations goes toward processing the raw food into storage-friendly food, such as soup mix.

Farmers assisting FEH donate acres of land on their farms toward growing useful crops, which include wheat, peas, potatoes, onions and a variety of other crops used to make a variety of products. Farmers growing food commodities that are interested in helping FEH by donating a portion of your harvest may contact us to learn more about the program.

Processors' Help

In order for donated food to be made ready for consumption, raw food crops must be processed into easily-stored and conveniently-prepared foods. FEH funds the shipment of crops to processors, who make and package the final food products. Then, products like soup and pancake mixes are donated to the Oregon Food Bank; all made from raw crops grown locally. While food processors will donate some of these services, FEH established a matching funds program to help successfully deliver high-quality food products to the Oregon Food Bank. Without the help of local processors, most of the raw food would never see the tables of hungry Oregonians.

The products distributed by the Oregon Food Bank can be obtained at any food box pantry it supplies throughout the Oregon hunger-relief network. Approximately ten percent of the Oregon Food Bank’s reserves come from donations from FEH.

Proceeds Donations

If you do not grow food crops, you can still help! Donating a portion of proceeds from the sale of non-food crops is another great way to help Oregon’s hungry.
